Ladyjacks to Play in Caribbean Classic

May 2, 2008

Caribbean Classic Flyer
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team hasn't officially released its 2008-09 schedule, but the players already know where they will be just prior to the Christmas break. The Ladyjacks will be traveling to Cancun, Mexico, Dec. 19-20, to compete in the Cancun Caribbean Classic.

"This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to experience the sights, sounds, beauty and culture of Mexico," said SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley. "As a program, we try to travel to different locations to give our players an education on and off the court."

The tournament will consist of SFA, Missouri State, San Francisco and Tennessee-Chattanooga. The Ladyjacks will be staying at the Moon Palace Resort located on Cancun's south shore. Fans interested in traveling to Cancun to support the Ladyjacks can call (970) 223-6644 for hotel information.

The Ladyjacks are quite accustomed to leaving the United States to compete in tournaments. During the 2004-05 season, SFA traveled to Freeport, Grand Bahamas to compete in the Junkanoo Jam. That season the Ladyjacks squared off against nationally ranked Duke and Illinois State in the four-team tournament.
